dice1I’m starting a new catagory today— Random Thoughts.   I needed a place that would allow me to answer questions from patients or share interesting facts that are mostly health related, but don’t really fit in the ‘Health ideas’ category.

In honor of Joel Roberts Poinsett, Poinsettia Day was pronounced as an act of Congress.  It is always on December 12th.  Poinsett was the first Ambassador to Mexico.  He brought the plants back to his South Carolina plantation where they were cultivated and given away as gifts.

Recognized as a symbol of Christmas with its brilliant red flowers, Poinsettias have also been a cause of concern for people with small children and pets.  The commonly held belief that Poinsettias are poisonous is not true.   They do contain a white latex-like sap.  Contact with this sap may cause inflammation of the skin for some individuals, but treatment usually is not necessary.   Some holiday plants that are toxic and should not be used when children or pets are present include Holly berries and Mistletoe.

Most toxic plants are bitter to the taste or irritate the mouth so generally the animal or person stops eating or chewing on it long before enough is consumed to cause any toxic effects.  Information about the toxicity of plants and other substances is available by calling the National Poison Hotline at (800) 222-1222.

Have a safe and Healthy Holiday Season!

thumbs-up.jpgDr. Stork is Great! He has a great, gentle touch and really listens to his patients. I took my boyfriend in for his first chiropractic adjustment ever. He’s not one to try new things, but Dr. Stork talked him through every step. The adjustment made my guy feel good again. We are patients for life! Thank you!

October means that Autumn is officially here!  The excitement of changing colors, apple cider,  and pumpkin patches makes Fall one of our favorite seasons.  Being a season of transition, Autumn can present some unique challenges to your body.  Let’s make sure we keep you in your best health this season by checking your spine regularly.  A healthy spine means a healthy nervous system.  A healthy nervous system helps you respond and adapt quickly to whatever Mother Nature throws your way.

On that note, here are some dates to remember to help you keep your appointments.

We will not be open Sat. Oct 4 or Sat. Oct 18, so please schedule accordingly with Donna.

To allow our patients and staff time with their families, we will be open for the  AM Session Only on Oct 31. Happy Halloween!

If you are not yet a patient and are interested in learning more about how chiropractic care can improve your life, call us at Fenton Family Chiropractic (810) 629-2757 or visit us on the web at www.FentonFamilyChiropractic.com

blog_apple.jpgSome people seem to expect a bout with a cold or the flu each year. If you haven’t had your quota yet, here are some things you can do:
Eat a poor diet. If you want to catch a cold, make sure your body lacks the vitamins and minerals it needs to keep itself in good repair. Eat lots of processed foods, stripped of their nutritional value.
Avoid adequate rest. Deprive yourself of adequate rest. Stay up late and reduce the time you sleep as much as possible. Use tobacco, coffee and other stimulants to fool yourself into thinking you have plenty of energy.

Stop exercising. Reduce the effectiveness of your immune and lymphatic systems. Unlike the circulatory system, your lymphatic system depends upon exercise and movement to circulate these germ-fighting fluids.

Rarely wash your hands. Increase your chances of catching a cold by compromising your personal hygiene. Remember to use your dirty hands and fingers to rub your eyes, pick your nose or wipe your lips.

Think negative thoughts. Look for opportunities to visualize having a cold. Pay attention to news reports about outbreaks of the flu and pay close attention to advertising that sells medications for cold sufferers.

Invite stress. Stress yourself physically by experiencing extreme temperature and humidity changes. Stress yourself mentally with constant worry or fear.

Become dehydrated. Avoid drinking enough water. Reduce the effectiveness of your natural defense mechanisms and other bodily functions by avoiding fluids.

Forget your appointments. Ignore your nervous system, the master control of your immune system. Avoid these preventive strategies and shun our suggestions of periodic chiropractic checkups to help you stay well.

The only way to catch a cold or the flu is to make yourself a hospitable host to the millions of cold and flu germs around you every day. Include regular chiropractic care to keep you working at your very best.

The first thing I learned was my problem could not be fixed in a visit or two. And the second thing is ICE ICE ICE, not heat. The office is comfortable and welcoming. It’s great to walk in the door to a friendly & happy Donna.  Dr Stork takes time to listen to what I’m saying and is a great people person. He put me at ease right away.

thumbs-up.jpg Dr. Stork,
I love the quizzes and the new website.  I’m learning new information.  I appreciate this method of delivery because it doesn’t make me feel like I’m being lectured.  I’d imagine that new patients would find it even more beneficial.  Well done!
